2024 Rocky Road Cabernet Sauvignon

This classic Cabernet Sauvignon presents aromas of bayleaf, red currants and violets as well as savoury notes of olive tapenade and nori.

Soft black fruits fill a silky palate that bounds with cassis and dark chocolate as well as subtle earth notes. This bright and juicy Cabernet Sauvignon displays silky tannins, delivering approachability and the potential to age over the medium-long term.

Vineyard: This wine is sourced from two of our southern Margaret River vineyards, Hazel’s and Calgardup Brook Vineyards. Hazel contributes structure, texture, and a savoury edge while Calgardup Brook, just a few kilometres from the coast, brings purity, aromatic lift, and mineral drive thanks to its schisty soils and strong maritime influence. Together, these sites offer a complementary expression of southern Margaret River, balancing power and finesse.

The 2024 Vintage will be remembered as the earliest start of harvest at McHenry Hohnen. After good rainfalls during winter, our vines reacted to the excellent moisture levels in the ground and the warm spring conditions by developing healthy canopies earlier in the season. Zero rainfalls and above-average diurnal temperatures characterised summer. The Marri blossom was incredible in 2024. With birds uninterested in our crops and no disease pressure, we could harvest pristine fruit. The whites show expressive fruit profiles, with texture and generosity but without compromising freshness. All our reds showcase good structure, concentration, and vibrancy.

Whole berries were transferred by gravity into concrete fermenters. Partial wild fermentation at low temperatures followed. Gentle extraction was carried out twice daily. The fruit spent between 7 and 15 days on skins to retain vibrancy and freshness before being transferred to seasoned French oak barriques for maturation which lasted for 14 months.
