2023 Rocky Road Shiraz

Vivid and vibrant purple hue in the glass. A seductive bouquet of Satsuma plum and roasted five spices gives way to cherry and fragrant white pepper notes.

A soft and juicy palate abounds with ripe mulberries, mocha and cinnamon. This sweetly fruited Shiraz offers generosity and charm, yet it’s showcasing a frame of fine, silky tannins that will ensure graceful ageing.

Vineyard: This wine is sourced from two of our southern Margaret River vineyards—Hazel’s and Calgardup Brook. Hazel’s Vineyard, certified organic and biodynamic, sits inland near Witchcliffe and contributes structure, texture, and a savoury edge. Calgardup Brook, just a few kilometres from the coast, brings purity, aromatic lift, and mineral drive thanks to its schisty soils and strong maritime influence. Together, the sites offer a complementary expression of southern Margaret River, balancing power and finesse.

2023 was a season of great balance, producing wines of grace, perfume, and longevity. Winter was wet and cold, followed by a cool but dry spring that provided excellent conditions for flowering and secured healthy yields. Summer remained dry with relatively mild temperatures through to January. The region experienced ideal conditions—warm, sunny, and breezy days without any heat stress on the vines. Consistent diurnal temperature variation throughout the season led to a highly aromatic vintage, with impressive freshness and perfect phenological ripeness.

Whole berries were transferred by gravity into concrete and wood fermenters. A small portion of the fruit was fermented with whole clusters for additional spice and aromatic lift. Fermentation underwent at low temperatures and gentle extraction was carried out. After 14 days on skins, the juice was softly pressed and transferred to large format oak casks for 14 months of maturation.
