2023 McHenry Hohnen Blanc de Blancs

Aromas of shortbread, apple tart and frangipani emerge alongside subtle notes of oyster shell and wet rock.

Vibrant and fresh, the palate showcases finger lime, fresh ginger and almond pastry complexities from the 36 months spent on lees. Long, energetic and mouthwatering, this blanc de blancs is a true reflection of place and a testament to our love for fine sparkling wine.

Vineyard: The fruit for our blanc de blancs is grown on Sieber’s Vineyard, an iron-rich, sandy loam one-hectare site in the Karridale subregion. This special place is significantly cooler due to its vicinity to the Southern Ocean, producing grapes with purity of flavour and impressive tension, ideal characteristics for fine blanc de blancs.

Vintage 2023 was a season of great balance, which produced wines of grace, perfume, and longevity. Winter was wet and cold, and we experienced a cool but dry spring. Good flowering conditions secured good yields. Summer was dry with relatively mild temperatures leading into January; days were warm, sunny, and breezy, but without heat stress for the vines. Excellent diurnal temperature variation set us up for a highly aromatic vintage, with freshness and perfect phenological ripeness.

A sparkling wine crafted with the méthode traditionnelle from 100% Southern Margaret River Chardonnay. The grapes were hand harvested and whole-bunch pressed with only the finest free run portion of the juice used for the sparkling base. The base was then fermented in stainless steel to highlight purity and freshness. Disgorgement took place in early 2026 along with its dosage to balance texture and complexity in the Extra Brut style.
