Viticulturist + Farm Manager

Ben SIEBER

Ben Sieber’s journey with McHenry Hohnen has come full circle. A long-time friend of the Hohnen family, Ben first joined the winery in its formative years, helping to build both the vineyard and the brand from the ground up. After five years of hands-on experience – laying the foundation for what would become one of Margaret River’s most respected producers – he returned to his roots in the Barossa to work on his family’s fifth-generation farm.

A connection to the land

The pull of Margaret River’s unique viticulture and laid-back lifestyle proved too strong. Ben returned, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a renewed appreciation for the region’s distinct soils and growing conditions. He spent five years at Vasse Felix managing vineyards in the cooler southern sub-region of Karridale and during this time, he and his family purchased their own property, reconnecting with their heritage in sheep farming.

Driven by a desire to move away from corporate viticulture and towards something more personal and connected, Ben shifted into vineyard and livestock contracting before being invited back to McHenry Hohnen in 2023 – two decades after his first chapter began.

Today, Ben leads both the viticulture and broader farm operations, bringing deep practical knowledge and a holistic understanding of the land. His approach blends regenerative farming with a hands-on ethos, managing vines, livestock, and land with intention and care. Ben’s return marks more than just a homecoming – it’s a continuation of a shared vision to grow wines of place and genuine purpose.
