Born and raised in the picturesque town of Soave in northeastern Italy, Jacopo Dalli Cani (affectionately known as "Japo") grew up surrounded by vineyards – a landscape that naturally shaped his passion for winemaking. His journey began at the University of Viticulture and Oenology in Conegliano, where he laid the technical foundation for what would become a global pursuit of wine knowledge.

Early experience with esteemed local producer Inama cemented his desire to explore further afield. Eager to broaden his perspective, Japo ventured to renowned wine regions across both the Old and New Worlds – completing vintages in Bordeaux, Barossa Valley, New Zealand and Margaret River.
It was the purity of the wines and the rugged beauty of Western Australia that drew him back. Inspired and invigorated, Japo made Margaret River home.
At McHenry Hohnen, Japo brings his thoughtful, minimal intervention approach to life. Guided by a deep respect for the land and a belief in honest winemaking, he crafts expressive, single-vineyard wines that speak clearly of their origin – wines with soul, integrity and a true sense of place.
